The tree-lined, flat parkland course, designed by James Braid, was formed in 1925 on the acquisition of part of the grounds of Garnkirk Estate, along with the 18th century Mansion House.
The course is relatively flat parkland and both professionals and top-class amateurs find it a fair test of their ability, particularly on some of the longer Par 4's. Most holes are tree-lined with oak, birch and pine. The Garnkirk Burn also winds its way through the middle part of the course, making the 6th and 7th holes testing depending on which way the wind is blowing. On a sunny day there are magnificent views of the Campsie Hills, with Ben Lomond in the background.
