Robert Jenkins does the double in the final OOM event of the season
Robert Jenkins of Crow Wood and Glasgow Golf Club had a double reason to celebrate his four-shot victory in the Garnkirk Trophy at Crow Wood at the weekend as it also clinched success for him in the Lanarkshire Order of Merit Shield. It was the final counting event.

All to play for in the Mens Order of Merit
FINAL EVENT ON SUNDAY
The Lanarkshire men's final counting event for the County Order of Merit Shield takes place at Crow Wood on Sunday in the Garnkirk Trophy. Stewart Henderson of Hamilton leads the way on 56 points but could be caught by a number of players including Crow Wood's Robert Jenkins and Alan MacDonald. Fifteen points are available for a score level with the CSS of the day plus extra points for every point below the day's CSS and fourteen for one above the CSS etc. So technically there are about 20 points available for two outstanding rounds.

Shields claims his first SGU Title
Kirkhill’s Paul Shields edged out Lanarkshire team-mate Steven Rennie at the second extra play-off hole to clinch the prestigious North of Scotland Open Amateur Championship at Inverness and his first SGU Order of Merit win.
Shields began with a six-over par 75 in tough conditions in the opening round, but bounced back with an excellent 68 on Saturday afternoon to go into the final day a shot behind overnight leader, Glenn Campbell. The 19-year-old, then fired two excellent rounds of 66 and 67 on the Sunday, only to be bettered by two consecutive rounds of 64 from Drumpellier's Steven Rennie, who tied Shields on 276.
Shields, who was tied third in the recent Standard Life Gold Medal at Leven, clinched victory with a 4 to Rennie’s 5 at the second extra play-off hole and now moved up to 11th in the SGU Order of Merit with one event to go.

CROW WOOD PIP CAMBUSLANG FOR LANARKSHIRE TITLE
Crow Wood came in late in the day to pip Cambuslang, who had led all day, to win the Lanarkshire team championship for the James Brown Trophy. Cambuslang's total of 212 had looked sure to win all afternoon until Crow Wood's team of Len Grindrod, Jordan Gallagher and Robert Jenkins came in late with scores of 70, 69 and 70.
They will now represent Lanarkshire in the Scottish Final at Fortrose and Rosemarkie on September 26.

Paul O'Hara wins his First Professional Tournament
Paul O'Hara last year's Scottish Order of Merit winner, has won his First Professional Tournament.....The Furst Fugger Privatbank Classic at Am Habsberg in Germany. He was 20 under par for the three rounds on the par 72 course winning 4814 Euros. His three rounds were 66, 63 and 67. This win takes Paul up to seventh on the Die EPD Tour Order of Merit. There are 156 professionals on this tour with most of the tournaments taking place in Germany and some in Morocco, Turkey and one in Denmark. Paul's next tournament is the Pfaffing Classic in Pfaffing Germany from July 19-21.

Stewart Henderson wins the Lanarkshire Strokeplay
Stewart Henderson of Hamilton won the Lanarkshire county stroke-play championship at Bothwell Castle. Stewart defeated Colin Kerr of Cambuslang at the first extra hole of a sudden-death play off after being tied on 147. Stewart last won the county championship 23 years ago when he also won in a play-off against Wilson Bryson.

CADZOW CUP AT HAMILTON ABANDONED DUE TO FLOODING
The Cadzow Cup men's open tournament was abandoned today at Hamilton Golf Club after a few hours' play, due to flooding of the greens and large areas of water on the fairways. The Hamilton committee have agreed to reschedule it for Sunday, September 5. Entries can be sent to the secretary at Hamilton Golf Club

Kirkhill's Scott Costello wins the Baxter Trophy
Scott Costello of Kirkhill won the first OOM Event of the season, the Baxter Trophy at Strathaven in dramatic style. Needing a birdie at the last to avoid a 5-way playoff, Scott duly obliged with a magnificent up and down from the fairway bunker 90 yards from the green. Scott scored aggregate of 145 (73, 72) which was excellent scoring on a firm and firey golf course.

The Lanarshire Boys win the Silver Medal at the Scottish Boys inter Area Championships

The Lanarkshire Boys team and manager Laurie Hendry are pictured here with their silver medals in the Scottish Boys inter Area Championships at Peebles. The boys left themseves a lot to do after the morning foursomes with scores of 73 and 78 but they rallied in the afternoon with a one under par total and won the silver medal by virtue of the best 4th counting score of 73 from martin Scott.

Martin Scott completes double over his home course
Martin Scott of Hamilton today completed the double in Lanarkshire boys’ events by winning the stroke-play championship at his home course, Hamilton, with an excellent score of 139. He finished four strokes ahead of runner-up Ross Gillan of Torrance House.

The Lanarkshire seniors county
The Lanarkshire seniors competition was played yesterday in excellent weather at Lanark Golf Club. Notable prize winners included Alan Ferguson, a senior International and record winner of the club championship at Drumpellier Golf Club. He had a scratch 74.
Also past Lanarkshire president David Moffat won his age group with an excellent net 66.

Moneygate Scottish Area Team Championship 2010
The Lanarkshire 6 man team head off to the Scottish Area Team Championship at Kinross this weekend. The strong line up includes Ross Kellet, who has been carrying the flag for Scotland all over the globe this year, including runners up spots in the Argentinean and Portuguese Amateur Championships. Kirkhills Paul Shields, another Scottish internationalist as well as a boys GB&I player and runner up in the consecutive Scottish Boys Match play finals. Sticking with the runner up theme there is Andy Fairbairn who was runner up in half of the Lanarkshire events last season. Then adding some of the winners ingredients to the mix is Ed Wood who piped Andy to the Cadzow and the Lanarkshire Stroke play titles last year, on his way to winning the Lanarkshire Order of Merit. Adding the steel and the guile to the team is Steven Rennie a seasoned campaigner at this level, and who has already notched up some strong finishes in the first SGU events of the season. And lastly, adding the experience to the team is Drumpeliers Scott Douglas.

Martin Scott wins Lanarkshire boys' Spring Meeting
Hamilton's Martin Scott won the Lanarkshire boys' Spring Meeting at Carnwath with an excellent score of five-under-par 65. Runner-up was last year's winner Craig Ross (Kirkhill) with a 67. The handicap section was won by M. McCaig (Kirkhill) with a net 63 off 14.

Lanarkshire Golf Association annual dinner
Lanarkshire Golf Association will hold its annual dinner and presentation of prizes at Colville Park Social Club, Motherwell on Friday, February 19. The dinner will be hosted by new Lanarkshire president Willie Sharpe of Hamilton Golf Club. The dinner is to present the league flags to the captains of the league-winning clubs of 2009. The clubs and captains were, in order from first division to fifth division:

- Hamilton GC, Neil Eadie.
- Airdrie GC, David Gardner.
- Shotts GC, Lewis Murray.
- Biggar GC, Allan McLean.
The dinner is also to pay tribute to the Lanarkshire players who represented Scotland in 2009. Paul O'Hara would have replied on their behalf but he will be in Morocco, starting his professional career and Ross Kellett will be abroad with the Scotland squad. The dinner is also an opportunity to entertain fellow county officials from Dumbartonshire, Renfrewshire, Stirlingshire, Ayrshire and Glasgow Golf Union.

East Kilbride Club house burned down
A devasting fire has destroyed Nerstons Clubhouse. The Council of Management of East Kilbride Golf Club would appreciate any assistance or guidance from the Lanarkshire Golf Association or member clubs in our efforts to re-build their Clubhouse. The intention is to re-build as soon as practicably possible and continue with a "business as usual approach".

Playsport Golf to sponsor the LGA
Lanarkshire have agreed a deal with Playsport Golf at East Kilbride, which will see the Mens, Youths, and Juniors teams using the facilities. The facilities include a 52-bay driving range split over 2 levels with a main target green based on the 17th island green at Sawgrass. The range also boasts an impressive list of PGA coaches offering a full range of lessons, catering for every level of golfer. Playsport Golf also offers players the chance to play on a course inspired by some of the UK's Open Championship courses.
The playsport centre plans to to expand which will see 5-a-side football, tennis and fitness facilities added to the centre. Playsport is well on it's way to becoming one of the top sporting facilities in South Lanarkshire, if not the top facility.

Ross Kellet Beaten in Final of Argentina Mens Amateur Championship 
Having reached the final of the Argentinean Amateur Championship in Buenos Aires, Colville Park's Ross Kellett had to settle for the runner-up spot after defeat to French amateur champion Romain Wattel. The Colville Park player, who came through the 36-hole stroke-play qualifying test earlier in the week as the No 4 seed, was up against it from start to finish in the final, as Frenchman Romain Wattel bagged 12 birdies over the 31 holes played. Wattel finished the day 9 under par compared to a creditable 2 under from Kellet.
Ross was runner-up in this year's European individual amateur championship and helped Scotland to win this year's European amateur team championship at Conwy in North Wales. Although he came up just short, reaching the final is still a magnificent performance.

No revenge for the mens team against Dumbartonshire
Dumbartonshire inflicted another defeat on the Lanarkshire Men's team at Drumpellier on Saturday. Only 2 weeks after beating the men's team in the semi-final's of the team championships, Dumbartonshire came to Drumpellier and recorded their 2nd victory, this time in the 10 man West of Scotland League.

Paul O'Hara turns professional
Colville Park's Paul O'Hara, first reserve to this year's GB&I Walker Cup team, has turned professional after clearing the Stage 1 hurdle of the European Tour Qualifying School process. After making the decision he pulled out of the Lanarkshire team for today's SGU area team tie against Angus at Kirkhill. O'Hara thus joins older brother Steven in the professional ranks (Steven had a final round of 64 in the European Tour's Austrian Open today). Paul lost to David Law (Hazlehead) in the 36-hole final of this year's Allied Surveyors Scottish amateur championship at Royal Troon. He topped the SGU Order of Merit by a considerable margin from James Byrne, having also won the Edward Trophy at Glasgow Gailes and the Sutherland Chalice at Dumfries. Paul, who will celebrate his 23rd birthday this coming week, was named as a reserve for the GB&I Walker Cup side. Paul is pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency during the Scottish amateur championship.

Ed Wood Wins the Order of Merit

Crow Woods Ed Wood won the Lanarkshire Mens Order of Merit. Ed who won the Cadzow Cup and Lanarkshire Strokeplay also managed to set a new Order of Merit record points tally of 100 points. When asked about his achievements, Ed response was "Thats what I'm talking about".
Kirkhill's Craig Ross won the Boy Order of Merit.
